NAPERVILLE, Ill. - NYIT's Dan Lackner has been named Great West Conference Player of the Week while Northern Colorado's Joe Sawicki has been honored as Pitcher of the Week for their individual performances last week. The conference office announced Monday.
Lackner captures player of the week honors after batting .538 (7-for-13) with a double, three homeruns and eight RBI to help the Bears to a 4-2 record on the week. The freshman outfielder propelled the Bears to an 8-7 win over Siena in non-conference action on Wednesday as he drove in the winning runs with a two run long ball in the eighth inning. Lackner also led the Bears to a 9-3 win over Houston Baptist in the first game of the double header on Saturday, belting two three run homeruns for six RBI in his two plate appearances in the contest. Lackner hit safely in all five appearances on the week.
